Aikido: a model for conflict resolution
Aikido is a martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba. It is based on the respect of every being and strive to make sure that everybody are safe after the attack, including the attacker.
The foundation of Aikido is to transform violence into love and peace, or simply respect. The determination to use non violence, mutual respect, is fed from the understanding we all have similar needs and we can live in harmony. Our behaviors does not always reflect our true loving nature. However, with a calm mind, self love, and a desire to understand others we can transform conflicts into connectionand build harmony.
On a practical level, the use of exercise, that have been inspired by my Aikido, will not only illustrate some concepts but also give you an experience that will embody the knowledge and help you to continue to develop, in your life, an attitude that allows you to face conflict with confidence, openess and spontaneity allowing for a better resolution.
